2011 Warrior Scramble Results

PDFPrintE-mail

The Philomath Booster Club held its 11th Annual Warrior Scramble Golf Tournament at Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe on May 7, 2011 and raised over $10,000 for the benefit of Philomath athletic programs!  Thirty-three teams (132 golfers) competed in the fundraising event this year.  The day began with an 8 am shotgun start.  After playing 18 holes, the golfers were provided lunch while awards were announced and some great raffle prizes given away.

The Warrior Scramble is the Booster Club’s largest fundraising event, netting just over $10,000 again this year!  Funds raised will benefit the Philomath athletic programs.  The funds will be used in a variety of ways to help support Warrior Nation, such as helping subsidize post-season travel and lodging expenses, supplementing the individual sports budgets of the fifteen programs offered to our student athletes, and providing sports waivers to athletes unable to afford the pay-to-participate fees.  This year alone the Booster Club was able to provide partial waivers to 75 student athletes who would not have been able to participate in sports. These athletes, in turn, volunteer hours to benefit the athletic programs to work off their waiver.  This is a win-win situation for these student athletes and the Philomath athletic program.  Funds raised this year will also go toward a new program being offered beginning next year which will award two or three college scholarships to deserving athletes.

The golf tournament is thoroughly enjoyed by participants, many of whom sign up year after year, seeing it as an opportunity for a fun day of golf with friends, family, and others in the community - all supporting the Philomath athletic programs.  Many golfers are PHS alumni or local community members.  Some were prior Philomath residents who have since moved, but come back each year to participate in this event.  Several teams are comprised of family members, others with local businesspersons with their cohorts and/or spouses.  Teams represent various segments of the community.

What really stands out is everybody’s dedication to Philomath and its athletic programs, which was very impressive this year with the net proceeds due to the generosity of the participants and sponsors alike.

For the scramble to be a financial success, the Booster Club depends on the generosity of the community.  The 11th Annual Warrior Scramble was hosted by 13 Corporate sponsors and 16 Hole sponsors, complemented by 22 Tee, Green and Cart sponsors.

It was great to have participation from all involved - PHS coaches, student athletes and their parents, Booster Club members and Philomath citizens all volunteered in force.
